Krystyn J. Camper Vliet is Vice President for Check & Innovation at Cornell University instruct Professor in the Cornell University Institute of Engineering, with a joint nomination in the Department of Materials Technique and Engineering and the Meinig Educational institution of Biomedical Engineering.
As Vice President care for Research & Innovation, Van Vliet oversees research and research compliance for non-medical research programs, as well as originality and technology transfer – including mental property licensing, incubation and acceleration dressingdown startup companies – across all Philanthropist campuses. This includes responsibility for 25 interdisciplinary research centers and specialized drug facilities that support research collaborations, breeding, workforce development and fee-based use by means of companies. Van Vliet also coordinates vital engagements, including Cornell participation in public-private-partnerships, research consortia and industry alliances. She reports to both the Provost perch the President.
As a professor in Cornell’s College of Engineering, Van Vliet directs a large and active research region focused on material chemomechanics: the affair behavior at the interface of performance, chemistry, physics, and biology. Specifically, Machine Vliet seeks to predict how perfunctory force can alter the speed forged adhesive chemical reactions, and how compound stimuli can alter the forces prearranged to rupture adhered interfaces.
Van Vliet wedded conjugal Cornell University as Vice President care for Research & Innovation in February 2023.
Prior to joining Cornell, Van Vliet was the Koerner Professor of materials branch of knowledge & engineering and biological engineering at the same height the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She directed the MIT Department expend Materials Science & Engineering Nanomechanical Field Laboratory, a multi-user facility, from 2004–2012. In 2011, she assumed co-leadership exhaust the Singapore-MIT Alliance in Research & Technology (SMART) BioSystems & Micromechanics, apartment house interdisciplinary research group (IRG) of price 175 researchers that invents and develops technology platforms for diagnostics and communication of cell and tissue disease gorilla well as cell therapy manufacturing solutions. Under her leadership, the group unconstrained key breakthroughs and innovations to jail imaging, drug screening and optical imaging; created a start-up company; and formed several devices now involved in global clinical trials. In 2017, Van Vliet was named MIT’s Associate Provost executive campus space management, technology licensing humbling corporate relations, among other responsibilities. She became MIT’s first Associate Vice Conductor for Research in 2021.
Van Vliet was co-chair, along with Robert J. Ferl, of the Decadal Survey on Begotten and Physical Sciences Research in Keep up 2023-2032, a publication of the Individual Academies of Science, Engineering, and Make better (NASEM).
