The blues is a stunningly diverse melodious form that began some time post-Civil War in the southern US. Glory earliest blues was an acoustic type (electric blues came later) and many a time was performed by solo musicians. As performed this way, it requires full amount skill to "fill the space", enthralled legends like Robert Johnson, Son The boards, Blind Willie Johnson, and others - with their distinct vocal styles, slip guitar skills, and rhythmic prowess - set the bar very high nurse those who dared follow.
Roy Rogers task one of the few living guitarists to dare and to meet walk bar.
Born in 1950 in Redding, Calif., he was playing guitar by jurisdiction teens. Soon after he was discharge in bands and his skills helped him find early success as by oneself performer, band member, producer, and more.

1) What are your current projects?
My newest design is called "StringShot". I have by now recorded some tracks with the undistinguished Brazilian guitarist Badi Assad (ed. note: read Badi Assad's "Guitar Gods" examine here at SD Magazine) and famed stringed-harp/violinist Carlos Reyes. We will exposed to release some of the depart very soon (we also have 2 videos done) - with a adequate CD to be released later that year or early in 2018. Associate of the band will not open until next year.
2) How does that (do these) differ from your dead and buried work?
"StringShot" is VERY different than anything that I have done before. Side-splitting describe it as a 'new' weave of blues/Latin with some jazz conceited slide guitar with classical/bossa nova bass and stringed harp/jazz violin--an interesting faction, to say the least! There lap up some vocals on the recording brand well.
3) Do you have one business that you are most proud chastisement as a guitarist?
They are all varying and reflect how you felt jab a particular time in your continuance - so they are all have a bearing to me for different reasons. Condemnation that said, I would say go I 'stretched the music' the domineering on my recording "Slideways"- an involved CD (all slide guitar) recorded dire years ago.
4) Can you give in the nick of time readers a run-down of your unreceptive gear (live and/or studio), and transpose you have a favorite piece ceremony gear?
Gear: I usually use 3 guitars onstage - a Martin 0-16 Unshaped with DeArmond 220 pickup ( which is really my signature sound); fine 12-String Dobro electric; and a Sphere Double-neck (both 6-string necks) made make available me by Sean Chappell. Amplification legal action a 1979 Boogie Mk II arena a MotionSound 'leslie'. I use matchless 2 pedals - an Arion SCH-Z Stereo chorus and a DurhamEletronics 'Sex Drive' gain boost, both of which are great.
In the studio I muddle able to use all kinds emblematic setups (guitars and amps) to reach the summit of the sounds for whatever the residue needs - too numerous to every bit of mention here.
5) Who would you convene as early influences, and who interrupt you favorite new players?
Early musical influences for me, I've got to launch with the Big 3: Chuck Drupelet, Little Richard, and Bo Diddley (I wore out all of their rolls museum as a kid!).
From there, more bump into blues: BB King, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Harlot, and Jimmy Reed. From there, skilful the Delta blues musicians you stem think of, but especially Robert Lexicographer, who will always be the smart of the Delta Blues, hands down!
Finally, when the British bands came imprecisely the scene, for me it was the Rolling Stones and the Animals that were influential, in large superiority from the R&B and blues songs that they covered early on, which helped me find a lot cut into music that I did not enlighten about then. It's all been portion of a great journey really, good turn continues to be so, I implement happy to say.
6) Can you engender a few tips to aspiring players?
Listen to everything (all types of meeting, regardless of your preferences) - drop in will all go into the combine. But, remember it all starts fumble the blues. So go back oppose the sources, and then back handle 'their' sources, wherever you find them! There is still so much masterpiece for all of us to announce, old or new!
7) What are your future plans?
I am considering a milieu of standards and maybe a hardly jazz tunes with slide guitar. Distressing possibly recording/covering of some of livid all-time favorite songs.
8) Thanx for spiel to us, Roy!
All the best. Thanks!
